Mitchell's newest painting was conceived and completed long before the terrible attack on America's homeland September 11, 2001.
"I did this painting for very personal reasons," he says. "Our Forefathers carefully blended faith and freedom into the very fabric of society. They put the words, 'In God we Trust' on currency, included the phrase, 'One Nation Under God' in our pledge to the flag. In my lifetime I have seen a steady dismantling, a stripping away of righteous influence. "
